    ------------------------------ Survey --------------------------------

Our moving estimators are well trained to evaluate project requirements. The more information you give them, the more complete the move plan can be.

Tell the estimator about all items to be moved, including new items to be purchased, items in an attic, garage,

loft, basement, or at another location. Identify items which are not to be included in the move.

Tell your estimator about your special concerns so we can address them in our work plan.

-------- Pre-Plan to Save Money & Time and Avoid Stress --------

Time is money for a local move and the better prepared you are, the more money you save. There are many cost saving steps that you can accomplish before the movers arrive. Examples are self-packing, moving items from upstairs to the ground floor, disassembling beds or items fastened to the wall, etc.

Whether moving down the block or across the nation, there is no short cut in the packing or the handling of your furniture. All your furniture must be handled safely. All breakables must be packed.

You can utilize many items as containers for your non-breakables. Your suitcases can be filled, you can leave your clothing in your dressers, and even your clothes hamper can be filled. Some tools can be placed inside trashcans.

If you elect to do part or all of your packing: tape your cartons closed, top and bottom. Identify contents and final location on the side. Use smaller

cartons for heavier, denser items and larger cartons for bulkier objects. Begin packing the simpler, least delicate items. As your familiarity increases, work up to the more challenging items. If you don't get as far as you hoped, our trained packers can do the more challenging packing, and you'll get the best value.

Label items that are not to be moved. It is actually better to have these items segregated or completely moved out of the residence before the packers/ movers arrive. Also, label the boxes and articles to be moved according to the room where you want them placed, not necessarily the room from which they came.

Delivery will go much more quickly if you pre-plan where you want your large furniture items to go. The movers will rearrange your furniture, but because local moving is charged by the hour, you may cause the cost to exceed expectations and will need to pay for the time utilized.

------------- Move Some Things Yourself --------------

Moving companies cannot be responsible for valuables such as jewelry, silver, stamp or coin collections, money, or similar types of valuables unless they are; (1) Specifically pointed out before loading to the driver and (2) Inventoried and valued in writing on the shipping documents. These types of items are often best moved by you.

You may want to move delicate items such as lamps, pictures, and mirrors yourself. Otherwise, they must be packed

to be safely transported. Marble or glass top tables also require special attention.

Some items the movers are not allowed to move: open paint containers, spillables, flammables, corrosives, caustics, ammunition, and items under pressure, empty or not (i.e. propane tanks, hair spray, shaving cream, aerosols). Arrange in advance to either dispose of these items, or to move them.

    ------------------- 10 Days Before the Move ---------------------

Notify subscriptions, post office, utilities, and the newspaper company of your moving date. If possible, your telephone and electricity should remain in service on the day of the move.

Make your decision regarding what type of transit coverage you want on your possessions during the move. Moving companies have a limited liability of only $.60 per pound per article without additional cost. This carrier liability can be increased by your election to choose Actual Cash Value, (depreciated coverage), or Replacement Cost Coverage. This decision must be made before the crew begins any work. Talk to your Move Manager.

Inform your Move Manager if you have any gas appliances (dryer, oven), icemaker or other items, which need to be disconnected prior to the move.

These items normally require a "3rd Party Serviceman" such as a plumber or electrician to disconnect and reconnect. Either you or we can arrange these services.

Confirm your dates for packing, loading, and delivery with your Move Manager.

The movers do not usually carry additional packing materials. If you don't think you will be able to complete your packing, please call your Move Manager so proper arrangements can be made for packing prior to move day.

Confirm that your new home will be ready, previous residents have vacated and repair work is complete. Refinished hardwood floors must be dry and cured.

---------------------- Day Before the Move ----------------------

Set aside and identify all items that you informed the moving estimator you were going to discard or move yourself before the packers/movers arrive.

Make sure that you have a Certified Check prepared, and made payable to: Vector…a move ahead, Inc., or Cash for the "Not to exceed" amount of your estimate. If your move runs less than the "Not to exceed" amount Vector will refund you the difference promptly.Contact your Move Manager the afternoon of the workday prior to any scheduled activity to find out when the crews are expected to arrive. Any special time

requirements you may have will be noted and we will do our best to meet those commitments. This is another opportunity for you to inform Vector about any last minute changes such as the size of your shipment, or your packing requirements.

Label all items going to a different location. This will allow the crew to load these items separately within the van in the most time saving way.

    ------------------------ Moving Day ----------------------------

When the crew arrives and introduces themselves:
  • Show them items not being moved
  • Show them items going to a different location
  • Show them items of special concern; delicate, sentimental, high monetary value.

The more the movers know the less you will need to worry. One person should be available for the moving crew at all times to answer questions. This is particularly important at the beginning and end of the load-out, and during the entire delivery. You are responsible for insuring that all items are

  • loaded at origin. The crew will not leave until you have advised them that you are ready. Make a last thorough tour of your home, and check all cupboards and closets, etc. to ensure they have been emptied. Check around the outside of the home. Don't forget your wheelbarrow or trashcans.

Our crews are trained to receive the payment on C.O.D. moves upon arrival at destination. The amount is the Not-To-Exceed amount noted on your estimate. If, as they frequently do, your move goes under estimate, a refund will be returned promptly.

    -------------------- Missing Items/Damage ----------------------

If you find any items missing, please contact your Move Manager immediately so a trace can be initiated. If any damaged items are discovered, please contact your Move Manager for a claim form. All claims must be filed in writing.

You have 9 months to file a claim, but you should file as quickly as you can. You must file before making a subsequent move. Keep the damaged item and its container, if packed, for inspection.

THE MORE PREPARED YOU ARE, THE SMOOTHER THE MOVE!
